5 ideas for when you’ve ran out of summer holiday activities!

At Kids Beds Online we understand that the school Summer Holidays can be a tough stretch, especially when you are running out of ideas and more importantly funds to keep your kids entertained in the holidays. We all know that kids are built with endless energy so you want to ensure that you have stimulated their minds and burned off as much energy as possible to ensure that they fall asleep the second their head hits the pillow on an evening!

With this in mind, you could do a wide range of activities with your little (or not so little) children this summer holidays! Let’s make the 2024 holidays the best ones yet and ensure that the end of the holidays is just as exciting as the start!

  1. Create a bucket list!

As a family create a bucket list of things you want to see or do over the last few weeks. This way you have a purpose of things to do each day to ensure you get up and out. You can also make things as affordable as possible and work with your budget. Ideas could include creating a daisy chain, writing a story, climbing a tree, seeing a boat, watching a sunset, or having a picnic near a castle. The possibilities are endless. Once each task is created your child can see the satisfaction of seeing the activity being crossed off their summer holiday bucket list!

 

2. Get gardening

Getting towards the end of summer is the perfect time to start gardening with your kids or grandkids. Whether it is raking the garden, planting new bulbs for the summer or removing the weeds from the garden path their is so much to teach children outdoors and the garden is a great place to start. They will feel really satisfied to know that they have helped to transform the space that they can play in.

Also if your feel green fingered enough you could try growing some flowers or vegetables in the garden so that they can see them flourish. Packets of seeds can be picked up at a very reasonable price and allow your kids to have a hand in the creation of their play space next year! Always time to plan ahead!

 

3. ready, steady, BAKE!

A perfect rainy day activity that the kids always love in the summer holidays. You can also tick off items on your neverending to-do list with this one too as you can make some tasty treats that can be enjoyed over the summer holidays or given as a gift to friends and family for saying thank you for looking after your pet whilst you have been away.

Whether it’s Sunshine biscuits, Family picnic tasty bites or treats for the local summer fayre, there’s bound to be a summer baking activity that you can do with your children. There are loads of simple and tasty recipes online, or you could even buy a baking kit from the supermarket to make things a little easier. Plus, if you tell them that there’s a movie night later on where they can eat their treats they might even do the washing up!

4. Summer Sleepovers

Depending on calendar clashes and family events, a summer sleepover will keep the kids entertained for ages. Pull out the spare bed, roll down the futon on the high sleeper and even make an emergency sleeping area and invite their cousins round to stay.

With plenty of new films, sweet treats and maybe even their freshly baked goodies, the kids will be entertained all day and all night. This is the perfect activity in the summer holidays, especially as they will have time to catch up on lost sleep if they are really tired afterwards. Plus, the adults might even be able to enjoy a seasonal wine and cheese night in the garden once the kids are asleep!

 

 

5. Garden camping

Setting up camp in the back garden is a brilliant activity for all the family, and as a kid this is an incredibly exciting activity to do. Camping in the garden is a really affordable way to ‘take the kids away’ during the holidays as you have everything you need with you. Borrow a tent from a friend for the weekend, drag your super comfy mattresses and duvets out into the garden with all your favourite snacks and you are ready to go. Sleeping in the back garden is an adventure for you and the kids and you can sneak inside for the toilet and any other home comforts you will need. Plus, you can guarantee it will become one of their favourite childhood memories no matter how successful you think it went!
