As the kids go back to school in the next few days after an exciting half-term filled with lie-ins, exciting adventures and a mountain of play fun, we are all out of our old routine. As any parent knows, getting your kids dressed, fed and out of the door on time can be a huge challenge. That’s why we’ve put together our top tips to help you speed up the school run every morning.

how to speed up the school run every morning

Set out breakfast

This might not be the first thing you think of to get everyone out of the door on time, but setting out the breakfast table the night before saves so much time. There’s no arguing about who is sitting where, you can make sure the TV is off to avoid distractions and you don’t need to get anything out of the cupboards.

Take 5 minutes before you go to bed to set out breakfast. Lay out the cereal boxes, put bowls on everyone’s place mat and even put the tea bag in your favourite mug to get your morning brew as quickly as possible!

Get a good night’s sleep

The key to waking up ready for the day is getting a great night’s sleep. Invest in a bed and mattress that supports your body or your child’s body properly to avoid disturbed sleep.

It is also important to wind down for a short while before you turn the light out otherwise you won’t be able to drift off straight away if your mind is on other things. It really does help to speed up the school run every morning.

Make sure homework is done the night before

One of the biggest reasons kids don’t get out of the house on time on a morning is because they are still doing their homework. Make sure you kids have a place they can use on an evening to get their homework done before they go to bed.

Depending on their age, the amount of homework they receive will vary each day, but make sure you give them plenty of time to get it done the night before it is due in.

No technology until they are ready

No technology on a morning might sound harsh to your kids but iPads and TV’s are often the main reason why kids get distracted from their morning tasks.

You can always reward them with their Ipad once everything they need to do on a morning is complete.

Be consistent

If you become consistent with your morning routine, your kids will just find it the new norm. Kids are really adaptable to change so be confident and keep up to your morning routine. You’ll know what works best for your family to get them up and ready for school every morning.
